With just a few months to clock 19 years old since they were first incorporated in Uganda, this week, K&K Advocates (formerly Kiwanuka & Karugire Advocates) one of Uganda’s leading full-service law firm came of age, re-entering their purpose-built upmarket chambers on Plot 5A2, Acacia Home.
Just about a year ago, the law firm demolished its former offices and in its place have erected a befitting office structure.

Founded on the 19th of September 2001 (according to Uganda Registration Services Bureau records) K&K Advocates has emerged into one of Uganda’s leading commercial law firms, providing a full range of legal services from transaction advisory services to litigation.
The range of Services, includes: commercial law, energy law, public law and regulation, dispute resolution.
Kiryowa Kiwanuka MCIArb one of the two pioneering partners at the firm has practiced Commercial Law, Labour Law, and Energy Law for 23 years. He is an accomplished litigation lawyer in Uganda having successfully represented clients in many of the country’s landmark commercial disputes and heads the firm’s dispute resolution department. KK has also distinguished himself as an energy law practitioner which led to his appointment in 2015 to fill the only legal slot on the 7 member inaugural board of the Petroleum Authority of Uganda, which position he holds to date.
Outside the firm, Kiryowa, is an ardent golfer and a football fan. He has served in various capacities in golf administration at the club level and national level as President of Uganda Golf Union leading the national team in many coveted regional championship wins. KK also currently serves as Chairman of Express Football Club, a Ugandan super league football team.

Edwin Karugire another founding partner, wields 19 years of experience and heads the firm’s transactions department.
The Makerere University (LLB) and the University of London (LLM) schooled lawyer, has led the K&K transactions team in two of the biggest telecommunication acquisitions in Uganda. He has also handled several notable cross border Joint Venture transactions in the Technology, FMCG, Pharmaceuticals, Media, Security Printing, Agriculture and Manufacturing sectors. In addition to corporate transactions, Edwin has many years of experience in licensing and regulatory compliance for diverse sectors and in commercial litigation.
