ccording to a list by the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Uganda had 774 law firms approved to offer service in the country as at September 20, 2017.
From the above law firms; and in partnership with The CEO Magazine and The Firm Ltd – a strategic communications firm in the country; we compiled our list of the top 25 law firms in Uganda.
There is obviously no universally agreed principle for measuring law firms, but in our compilation we considered the age and experience of the firm, number of lawyers and most importantly, the experience, influence and impact of the firms’ senior partners. Relatedly, we also looked at the diversity of practice areas these firms are engaged in, as well as the nature of clients and assignments handled.
We also put into consideration the firms’ affiliations to global law firms as well as accolades and awards they have won. In this respect we also looked at listings and or mentions by three of the world’s major guides on top law firms: IFLR1000 Financial and Corporate Guide, Chambers Global Guide and The Legal 500 EMEA 2018.
Ultimately, all the above should translate into revenues for the law firms. Therefore, where we could, we put into consideration the respective earnings by these firms covering either 2015, 2016 or 2017. We also got professional input from at least 10 top lawyers in town regarding this list.
