Kiryowa Kiwanuka - widely known as "KK" - is a founding partner of K&K Advocates and one of the most prominent litigators and commercial lawyers in the East African region. With over two and a half decades of active practice, KK has led the firm through some of the most significant and complex commercial disputes and transactions in Uganda and the wider region, earning a reputation for strategic depth, technical precision, and the ability to manage high-stakes litigation and transactional mandates concurrently.
KK's litigation practice spans commercial and civil disputes, banking and finance, insolvency, and energy law. He has appeared at and led disputes at the highest levels of the East African judicial system and international arbitral tribunals, advising financial institutions, corporates, energy operators, and public bodies on matters requiring sophisticated legal strategy, regulatory navigation, and multi-party stakeholder management. His practice is distinguished by a rigorous analytical approach and a sustained record of results in high-value, precedent-setting matters.
KK's energy and infrastructure practice encompasses upstream and downstream petroleum law, regulatory engagement, and project advisory work. He served as a director on the inaugural Board of the Petroleum Authority of Uganda - a role that placed him at the centre of shaping Uganda's oil and gas regulatory regime that continues to inform the operators and contractors across the sector to this day.
KK currently serves as the Attorney General of the Republic of Uganda, appointed in June 2021, and is on sabbatical from the firm for the duration of his public service.
Outside of legal practice, KK served as President of the Uganda Golf Union, leading the national team to numerous regional championship victories, and as Chairman of Express Football Club, a Ugandan Premier League side and multiple-time league champions.
